Description
The star of the collection. hese hand-moulded facing bricks are made from Löss from Limburg, extracted from the plateau of Kesselt in the Meuse valley and revalued with raw materials from the Volcanic Eifel.
Pressure
The facing brick (non-perforated) is sanded on five sides and provided with an oblong sloping groove on one flat side. The structure has a rough appearance with fine and irregular grooves in the sandy surface. The baking process is done in a gas-fired tunnel kiln under slightly reducing atmosphere.
Color
The homogeneous mixture of a precise proportion of manganese dioxide with grey-red baking clay results in a dark brown brick. In addition to a white sandy surface, white powders are applied at a staggered manner and baked in order to obtain the grey-white deposits, through which a very light nuance is obtained. Through sintering Nelissen obtains the light gray brick with black and brown spots.
